Sacramento – Today, Governor Brown signed AB 1424, which will allow for greater participation on mental health boards/commission by an individual who is a consumer of mental health services and who is also an employee of a contract agency who has obtained such employment as a part of his/her recovery. Mullin introduced AB 1424 after learning that it was becoming increasingly difficult to recruit and retain the required commission members who are consumers “receiving or have received mental health services.”

“AB 1424 recognizes that gainful employment is part of the recovery process and that lived experience of staff is one of the best ways to promote wellness and reduce stigma in the workplace,” said Mullin. “I appreciate the input and support of the County of San Mateo Health System as this bill has moved through the process.”
