San Bruno CA: Parkside Music Department Needs Your Support

San Bruno’s Parkside Intermediate School music department made the following request.

Is there some way of getting this plea for help from Parkside’s music department on San Bruno Patch?

It has been a very successful program over the past couple of years and has doubled the number of students taking music over last year. There are 60 students in Beginning Band in 6th grade. However, they are victims of their own success and don’t have the resources to handle this without help from the community.

There is no funding available from the District for non-core curriculum subjects.

I can give you links to recent videos of the Band’s performances if that helps.

Hello San Bruno Community Members and Music Education Advocates,

Our names are Elyse Mahfouz and Ciana Whitfield. We are the music teachers and one part of a terrific team of music-lovers at Parkside Middle School in San Bruno, CA.

We have a flourishing music program with a core of excellence that is in dire need of community and general assistance.

We have nearly doubled in size in under a year and are working with minimal resources due to this positive issue that brings waves of change.

We have been declined assistance with pending important needs and are desperately looking for help in order to give our children, future leaders, and artists the music education they deserve.

Please know that the Parkside Music Boosters and music family have been doing everything in their power to assist us and we are now asking for your input.

We are wondering if there is anything you could consider and/or advise regarding helping our program.

Issues Involved: (a few examples)

Classes Need Standard Basic Learning Materials:

Concert & Marching Band students need a very important textbook.

This cost is $850.00.

Music for 10 different music classes and two to five major performances:

1 piccolo

1 Baritone saxophone

2 Trombones and 8 bell kits

1 Three-quarter size tuba

Mallets

2 Half-sized cellos

2 Half-size upright basses

Upcoming Expenses:

Concert & Competition experiences (including buses)

Field trip(s) for enrichment (including buses)

Other Needs:

Instrument Repairs

Music Copier

Music Software

All required accessories have been depleted

Tuners/Pickups
