PORTOLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WELCOMES NEW PRINCIPAL
SAN BRUNO, CA. The San Bruno Park School District has appointed Barbara Alford as Principal of Portola Elementary School. A graduate of Harvard University Principal’s Institute, Santa Clara University, and Arkansas State University, “Ms. Alford brings an outstanding background in educational leadership and cutting-edge behavioral and instructional philosophies to her new role as Principal of Portola Elementary School” commented Superintendent Cheryl Olson.

An educator for 16 years, Ms. Alford has a background in the arts, sciences, languages, and technology that will contribute significantly to Portola preparing its students for the 21st Century global economy. Having taught abroad and in the Cupertino Union School District where she was honored as Site Teacher of the Year, Ms. Alford comes to Portola Elementary School from an Assistant Principalship in the Palo Alto Unified School District during which time she was also appointed District Science Teacher on Special Assignment in the area of STEM-STEAM development (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics). Ms. Alford speaks Spanish and German. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators, National Science Teachers Association, and the California Association for the Gifted.
In reacting to her new role, Ms. Alford shared, “I’m very excited to work with the students, staff and families of Portola and San Bruno in leading our school to new levels of accomplishment”.
