San Bruno Hawks Take Pee Wee League Championship
After a high-scoring Game 3 victory, the San Bruno Hawks took home the Pee Wee Baseball championship.
The Star: The Hawks' second basemen Milo Cava stood out in Game 3. With a combination of batting 6-for-6 and single-handedly scoring four runs, Milo stood out and shined the entire game. The game ended with the Hawks scoring 19 runs against the Elks, who were held to four runs.
The Turning Point: Game 2 was a loss for the Hawks that took its toll on the team. After the game, the players started talking among one another, and motivating and reminding each other that the next game was it and that they needed to step up. The team believed they were the better team coming into the championship, and they were determined to take home the trophy—no matter what.
The Quote: "Defensively our infield made some great plays and basically won the championship for us, hands down. Without their massive effort and teamwork, I don't think we would have won." —Leroy Stubbles, Hawks head coach.
Whats Next? Some of the players on the team are going on to tournament baseball. Five players from the team are moving on to different all-star tournament teams.
The Bottom Line: Defense won all three games. Stubbles said the Hawks' defense was strong and sound. They trained the hard, practiced a lot and came together as a team. The Hawks felt they were the better team going into the three-game championship series. After losing to the Elks in Game 2, the Hawks finished the series by opening up a huge scoring gap.
