San Bruno Man Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver in Santa Cruz

The driver was arrested on the spot.

The Santa Cruz County coroner’s office has identified a pedestrian killed by an alleged drunk driver in Santa Cruz Thursday evening as 73-year-old San Bruno resident Dennis Neal.

The crash was reported at 7:04 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of West Cliff Drive and Bay Street, according to Santa Cruz police Lt. Bernie Escalante.

The driver, Robert Wright, was screened for alcohol at the scene and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to police.

Wright was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
