San Bruno Park School District has received nearly one million dollars in Big Lift Grant funding to address early literacy, beginning with preschool. Last summer, The Big Lift Inspiring Summer academic program was offered tuition free to eligible rising Kindergartners and rising First graders creating an environment for partnerships in the community to unfold. Inspiring Summers adopted San Bruno Police Department which resulted in Chief Barberini and his officers spending time with the students helping them with reading, interacting with parents at daily community breakfasts and hosting the eighty students at the police department for a field trip.

The partnership was so positive for all concerned that the Adopt SBPD continued through this past school year involving the three SBPSD preschools. Again, the police have spent time each month reading to students and being part of their development. Today, the children gave back with Preschool Pizza for Police at the Belle Air campus. Students and parents from the three preschools (Allen, Rollingwood and Belle Air) contributed to a luncheon buffet with pizza for police donated. The children sang several songs as their gift of thanks to their friends, San Bruno Police. Special thanks to Chief Ed Barberini, and Officers Scott Rogge and Sherry Campbell.
