Things to Know: Police Day Comes to Tanforan

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Saturday, May 12. 9 a.m.-noon. The Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) will be holding its first of two Landscape Education Program workshops at . The subject of this hands-on workshop will be to teach you how to install and convert to a drip irrigation system. Registration is required. Saturday, May 12. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Now is the time to sign up for the 2012 season if you are a new or returning San Bruno AYSO player. Sign up at the league's pancake breakfast at the from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Saturday, May 12. 10 a.m.–9 p.m. The San Bruno Police Department, in conjunction with The Shops at Tanforan and the city's Citizen’s Crime Prevention Committee, will be holding Police Recognition Day inside the the mall on the ground floor. Numerous police vehicles will be on display and the various police departments will be handing out information. One or two K-9 demonstrations are scheduled to be held near the escalators. Meet your neighborhood police officers and obtain crime prevention information.

Saturday, May 12. San Bruno AYSO's Dynamite team is holding a car wash fundraiser to help pay for their trip to the national games in July in Knoxville, TN. Washing from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the gas station.

Saturday, May 12. Over the past year, BART has crafted a brand new bicycle plan that defines the strategies the transit agency will pursue over the next 10 years to double the number of passengers who access stations by bike. This is an update to BART’s first bicycle plan, published 10 years ago. The draft plan is available for review and comment through May 12 at www.bart.gov/bikes. Comments and suggestions related to the draft bike plan can be sent to bikes@bart.gov.

Sunday, May 13 through Friday, May 25. Lifeguard training classes, based on the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program, will be held to certify students in lifeguarding, CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer, and first aid. Students must be 15 years of age by the last day of class and pass a swim pre-test (swim 300 yards continuously, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10 feet and return it to designated spot). Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18. Celebrate Earth Day by setting out extra recycling on your regular service day for the 12^th annual Clean Your Files Day. For larger quantities that do not fit, place in paper bags or boxes and set next to your blue recycling cart. Tuesday, May 15. San Bruno AYSO EXTRA is a program for players who have the interest, skills, abilities and desire to enhance their soccer experience and individual growth on a more challenging level. Team tryouts start May 15. For questions, call 650-873-AYSO.

Sunday, May 20. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce will hold the grand opening of the 2012 farmers market season at its new location in the parking lot of The Shops at Tanforan, just north of the El Camino Real entrance. The market will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sundays.
