San Bruno Pursuit Down 101 Ends In Country Club Crash: CHP

BREAKING: CHP officials tell Patch that 2 or 3 people got away after running from the crash site outside an area country club.

MILLBRAE, CA — Three people were detained, and one of them ultimately arrested, following a police pursuit down the 101 on the Peninsula early Wednesday morning, officials tell Patch. The incident started near San Bruno and ended in a crash at a Millbrae country club.

According to CHP Officer Vu Williams, the chase started around 2:30 a.m. along the I-380 connector to U.S. 101 south after it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen.

"We ran the plate and it came back to this carjacking incident in Union City from last week," Williams said.

That's when a CHP unit attempted to stop the driver of the vehicle — but the man took off instead. A pursuit was initiated, and ended around 2:45 a.m. when the suspect crashed into a gate at the Green Hills Country Club at 500 Ludeman Lane in Millbrae, according to the CHP and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

KTVU reports the chase reached up to 100 mph at times.

Sheriff's deputies, Redwood City police and Burlingame police responded to the scene and helped the CHP search for the suspects, according to SMC Sheriff's Det. Sal Zuno. Officials canvassed the area with the assistance of a K-9 and helicopter.

"After a little over an hour, three suspects were found; two females and one male," Zuno said.

According to Williams, five or six people hopped out of the vehicle after the crash, so two or three were never caught. Of the three who were taken into custody, only the man was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony evading.

It's not yet clear if the man — whose name was not released — was also responsible for the Union City carjacking, but investigators are looking into the connection, Williams said.

No injuries were reported.
