- Receive a presentation about the findings of a recently conducted survey of downtown parking conditions;
- Learn about various downtown parking management measures used to assemble and manage parking resources in downtown areas; and
- Provide feedback on your observations and experience related to parking in the downtown area.
What is the Downtown Parking Management Plan?
The City of San Bruno was awarded a grant from San Mateo City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) to study parking needs Downtown San Bruno. The A primary objective of the Downtown Parking Management Plan will be to effectively accommodate downtown parking needs. Downtown Parking Management Plan will identify strategies to improve parking management in this important area of the City. It will identify appropriate supply and distribution of parking in the downtown area to meet parking needs in the near-term, medium-term and long-term timeframes, and recommend priorities, and to prevent spillover into residential areas. The study area focuses on the area defined by the commercial uses along San Mateo Avenue from San Bruno Avenue in the north to El Camino Real in the south.

What's been done so far?
A parking occupancy survey was conducted in the along San Mateo Avenue, nearby side streets and off-street lots to measure parking demand versus capacity by showing how full are and how that demand shifts by time-of-day. The survey is described in an Existing Conditions report, which summarizes the data collected, including parking occupancy, duration (length-of-stay) and turnover. This will provide a baseline and benchmark for subsequent analysis.
What's Next?
The next step is to project future parking demand based on potential development allowed in the TCP area. The Plan will identify parking strategies to meet parking needs in the near-term, medium-term and long-term timeframes, and recommend priorities based on the input of decision makers, stakeholders, and City staff. Importantly, the plan will also consider strategies to improve mobility and access to the downtown and reduce parking demand by encouraging bicycling, walking, transit use, and potential shuttle service.
Community Engagement
The Downtown Parking Plan will be developed in close collaboration with the community. As a result, the planning process will include several opportunities for community engagement, including the following:
- Community Workshops. Events open to the entire community that will present issues and working design concepts, facilitate dialogue and elicit feedback at key stages in the planning process.
- Stakeholder Interviews. Small group meetings with a diverse stakeholders, such as property and business owners, community groups, pedestrian and bicycle advocates, transit riders, residents, and others who may be most interested in and/or affected by the project
- Online Survey. An online complement to the public workshops that will enable people to easily and quickly provide input through an interactive map-based survey.
- Planning Commission and City Council Meetings. Periodic check-ins with decision makers to ensure that both bodies are informed about the project and have opportunities to provide periodic direction
