Things to Know: Farmers Market Opens at the Mall

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Sunday, May 20. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The grand opening for the new farmers market will take place in front of The Shops at Tanforan. Join Mayor Jim Ruane and others at about 10 a.m. for the grand opening ceremonies. About 40-plus vendors are expected, and they will be selling fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers as well as other goods. Special events are also being planned for each day the market is open. There will be special booths each Sunday featuring various San Bruno Chamber members, and on many Sundays one of the city's committees, commissions or local nonprofit groups will be manning an informational booth. Tuesday, May 22. 6:30–9 p.m. The fifth CERT class will be held at the San Bruno Resource and Recovery Center, 458 San Mateo Avenue. For more information, call Gary Carson at 650-616-7096.

Wednesday, May 23. 6:30–8:30 p.m. Register for the San Bruno AYSO league in the teen room at the rec center. For more information, call 650-873-2976 or visit www.sanbrunoayso.org/reginfo.html.

So You Can Plan Accordingly

Friday, May 25. Join the John Muir Elementary community for their second annual Walk-A-Thon. Grades K-3 will be walking from 10-10:30 a.m. and grades 4-6 will be walking 11-noon. Pledge forms can be obtained from Stacy Palafox by emailing snmj@att.net. You do not need to be a John Muir alum to donate. 

Saturday, May 26. The compost workshop at the rec center will allow you to turn your kitchen food scraps and yard clippings into rich soil for your garden and plants. Reserve your free spot by calling 650-616-7180 or visiting www.recycleworks.org/compost/workshop.html. Reservations are not necessary but are encouraged.

Sunday, June 3. The annual Posy Parade starts at 1 p.m. and goes along San Mateo Avenue from Kains to El Camino Real to Crystal Springs and finally to City Park, where refreshments will be served.
