Dear Friends,
I invite you to apply for an internship in my District Office in San Mateo. We are seeking college students looking for a unique opportunity to learn about the work of a member of Congress and the federal government. I got my start in politics as an intern for then-Assemblyman Leo Ryan. That experience taught me how tremendously rewarding public service can be because you get to help people and solve problems.
During the internship you will be tasked with answering phones and interacting with constituents, assisting with constituent correspondence, doing legislative research and helping at community events. You should have professional phone manners, an interest in national and local issues, excellent communication skills, strong writing skills, a good understanding of basic computer programs and be able to complete tasks under tight deadlines. You will learn skills that will serve you well in any professional career you may pursue in the future.
If you are interested in being a Spring semester intern from January to mid-May 2016, please send a cover letter, this internship application, your resume and a 2-3 page writing sample to speier.internships@mail.house.gov by January 15, 2016. Don’t wait until the last minute as we will start interviewing as soon as we are receiving applications.
I look forward to seeing you in my office!
All the best,
