COUNTY OF SAN MATEO UPDATE

County Parks Warns Visitors of Cliff Erosion, Offers Live-Streaming Locations for Mavericks Surf Contest

The anticipation of big waves and championship surfing is in the air on the San Mateo County coast as enthusiasts eagerly await the call for the Mavericks surf contest between now and February 28. The San Mateo County Parks Department wants to remind visitors to observe all trail safety signs and use caution when hiking the bluffs and assessing surf conditions in advance of the competition. Because cliff erosion along the coast is ongoing and presents a public safety risk, there will be no bluff access when the competition is live. San Mateo County Park rangers and Sheriff deputies will be stationed at roads and bluff access points to direct those seeking a view of the competition to local live-streaming locations.
