San Mateo County Office of Education Honored Gus Xerogeanes as the Founder of Outdoor Education.

At their March 20 2019 San Mateo County Office of Education board meeting, Gus Xerogeanes was honored as the Founder of Outdoor Education. Mark Noland, Director – Outdoor/Environmental Education made the following comments:“Good evening President Camacho, members of the Board and Superintendent Magee.”

“Thank you for taking time on the first day of Spring, the Vernal Equinox, to recognize SMCOE’s 50 years of providing residential outdoor education for ¼ million 5th & 6th grade students, 25,000 high school cabin leaders and 10,000 classroom teachers.”

“54 years ago Gus founded the Outdoor Education program through the San Bruno Park School District.”

“Now, I would like to ask President Camacho to come forward and present Gus, on behalf of the Board, with a resolution in his honor.”
