Adoption of the Final Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment!
On March 13, the County of San Mateo's Board of Supervisors adopted the Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment, confirming the County's commitment to sea level rise preparation and the protection of its vulnerable communities. The Board heard a presentation on the Assessment and an overview of the County's larger Climate Change Preparedness Action Plan. The video of the presentation can be seen here. State Adopts 2018 California Sea-Level Rise Guidance
On March 14, the Ocean Protection Council (OPC) adopted the 2018 update of the State of California Sea-Level Rise Guidance, which provides bold, science-based guidance to help state and local governments analyze the risks associated with sea-level rise and incorporate sea-level rise into planning, permitting, and investment decisions. In September of 2017, San Mateo County Libraries launched their “Community Conversations” program which brings community members from all over the County to listen, learn, and discover common connections with one another.
Climate Change: We all have a role to play in reversing global warming. At this Community Conversation, staff from the Office of Sustainability’s climate change team will discuss what you can do to be a part of climate solutions in your community. We will also discuss what the County is doing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to prepare for sea level rise and other consequences of climate change.

This webinar will provide a first look at the new California State Adaptation Clearinghouse, which aims to be a centralized source of information and resources to assist decision makers at the state, tribal, regional, and local levels when planning for and implementing climate adaptation efforts. The Adaptation Clearinghouse is a main component of the Integrated Climate and Adaptation Resiliency Program (ICARP).

Resilient Communities Grant Program
PG&E has chosen extreme heat events as the focus for the 2018 grant program. As the hottest summer on record in California and the third warmest year globally, 2017 highlighted the growing need to address extreme heat events. Grant applications are open now and are due May 11. Apply here.
Climate Adaptation Fund 2018 Request for Proposals
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Climate Adaptation Fund provides a total of $2.5 million in grant awards between $50,000 and $250,000 to conservation non-profit organizations each year. WCS is looking for one to two-year projects that implement science-driven, on-the-ground actions that assist wildlife and ecosystems with adapting to climate change at a landscape scale. Submit a completed WCS Pre-proposal Application by April 6, 2018 here.

More of the Bay Area Could be Underwater in 2100 than Previously Expected
