San Carlos Airport to Host Free Flights for Senior Veterans
Ageless Aviation Dreams to fly 100th local participant over the Peninsula this year
Redwood City—
Seniors who once served in the United States military will receive a sky-high thank you this Thursday at the San Carlos Airport when a national nonprofit connects them and their families with free flights in a World War II-era aircraft.
The media is invited to meet these special veterans and pilots at the April 26 “Dream Flights” event where they will ride on a Boeing Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train military aviators in the 1940s. The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, which primarily focuses on individuals living in long-term care communities, has flown more than 4,000 people at events throughout the country and in San Carlos will fly its 100th local participant.
This year, the foundation is partnering with the Vi at Palo Alto retirement community. “This is the third year Ageless Aviation Dreams has visited and provided flights to retired veterans and their families. Each time they're here, I've met and spoken to some of the men and women who served our country, and even some who flew aircraft during the Vietnam and Korean Wars and World War II.
These flights are special and it's an honor to have this organization visiting the San Carlos Airport again,” said Assistant Airport Manager Chris St. Peter.
