Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.
Today. The first review of applications for the city's summer 2012 internship position starts today. You can apply for the opportunity on the city's website at www.sanbruno.ca.gov. For more information, call 650-616-7055.

Saturday, April 21. Noon-4 p.m. Join The Shops at Tanforan and Parenting on The Peninsula for the Children’s Activities Fair to learn about
fun, educational and active children's programs. Meet representatives from various after-school, summer and year-round programs, and watch demonstrations from participating exhibitors. Contact the mall office at 650-392-1631 with any questions.
Monday, April 23. 5 p.m. This is the deadline to file your application for the city's Community Service Officer I (part-time) open position. An application may be submitted online at www.sanbruno.ca.gov. For more information, call 650-616-7055.

Tuesday, April 24. 7 p.m. Attend the City Council meeting at the senior center to hear an update by the San Francisco International Airport on its ongoing work in the area just east of the Seventh Avenue homes. This area is the home to the state and federally protected California Garter snake and the Red-Legged frog. The Cupid Row flood control canal runs through it. The questions I sent to the state Department of Fish and Game haven't been answered yet, so hopefully they provide more information at the council meeting.
Tuesday, April 24. 6:30-9 p.m. The Community Preparedness Committee is holding the first of its seven evening classes that will teach residents how to become certified as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. The training is free and will take place at the San Bruno Resource & Recovery Center, 458 San Mateo Avenue. Register here. For question, call Gary Carson at 650-616-7096.
Wednesday, April 25. 7 p.m. The San Bruno Park School Board is scheduling yet another public meeting to further discuss options for possibly closing an elementary school. Wednesday's school board meeting brought out about 200 people. Come prepared to speak.
Thursday, April 26. 9:30-11:30 a.m. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce and Sparkpoint Center are proud to offer a small-business series for local entrepreneurs. These classes are open to both chamber members and non-chamber members. For more information, call 650-588-0180. Flier attached.

Saturday, April 28. 1-4 p.m. Check out Children's Day/Book Day, also known as Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros at City Park. All afternoon, there will be crafts for kids, a book giveaway, music and performances to enjoy. For more information, call the San Bruno Park School District at 650-624-3110.
Saturday, April 28 and Sunday April 29. Join San Bruno residents and friends for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life being held at Capuchino High School. There is still time to sign up, or just show up either day and walk with your fellow San Bruno residents.
Saturday, May 5. 9 a.m. Please plan to join the city’s Beautification Task Force and Recology San Bruno for the 2012 Operation Clean Sweep. Meet in City Park between the gazebo and the recreation center. Equipment and tools will be supplied, and refreshments will be available after you complete your tasks. Saturday, May 12. 10 a.m.–9 p.m. The San Bruno Police Department, in conjunction with The Shops at Tanforan and the city's Citizen’s Crime Prevention Committee, will be holding Police Recognition Day inside the mall on the ground floor. Numerous police vehicles will be on display and the various police departments will be handing out information. One or two K-9 demonstrations are scheduled to be held near the escalators. Meet your neighborhood police officers and obtain crime prevention information.
Sunday, June 3. The annual Posy Parade take place on this day. This year, the theme is "Education is Everything." All San Bruno schools, sports teams and children's groups are encouraged to participate.
