San Mateo County Alert Reports:
At approximately 10:30 pm on Thursday evening 7/17 a mountain lion was seen in the vicinity of the 500 block of Richmond Drive in the city of Millbrae. Once spotted, the mountain lion walked west and upwards towards a wooded area located near Berkshire Drive. Sheriff's Deputy Szerenyi arrived on scene, checked the area and contacted the resident regarding the sighting. The animal appears to have left towards a more rural area.
If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with offspring. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.
Here are a few tips:
Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.
Keep a close watch on small children.
If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.
Pick up small children.
