Train Tracks Moved This Weekend for Grade Separation

South Linden closed until Monday morning.

This weekend, work on the grade separation gets serious.

Workers will move the tracks a few feet to the west, a round-the-clock job that started 8pm Friday and will continue through 4am Monday. It will require a street closure at South Linden Avenue. The task requires the use of heavy on-track equipment to move, stabilize and resurface the rails, said Todd McIntyre, Caltrain's community relations manager. Work may resume on the weekend of Feb. 18 if it is not completed by Monday morning, McIntyre said.

Notices for the work at South Linden Avenue and later work on First Avenue have been hand delivered to residences in the area.

Beginning Feb. 21, First Avenue will be closed to traffic. The street will become a cul-de-sac at the southern end of , requiring motorists to use Huntington and San Mateo avenues to get to San Bruno Avenue. Preparatory work for that closure will begin Monday.

The will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station will be constructed between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues, replacing the existing station at Sylvan Avenue.

More information is available on the Caltrain project page.
