UPDATE Parkside Students Talk To The Astronauts Via Amateur Radio

Original date and time to be rescheduled - stay tuned

UPDATE

Good morning!

I just received a call from our ARISS contact that NASA has some priority activity come up on Monday, and needs to push us back. They are working on Wednesday at approximately the same time.

This may be disappointing for some, and a bit of a scheduling headache. I'd ask you all to remember that the ARISS activity is always subject to NASA's mission needs, and it's a kind and wonderful thing that they support the chance for the students to have these experiences at all. There is an old phrase that often goes around in NASA circles when dealing with things of an experimental nature, rockets and such, "If all goes well..."

This coming Monday, March 5, 2018, students at Parkside Middle School in San Bruno will have an opportunity to talk directly with astronaut Scott Tingle on board the International Space Station through amateur radio. The contact will be helped by members of the San Bruno Amateur Radio Volunteers, the Millbrae Amateur Radio Club, and the students' own Parkside Radio Club, in cooperation with NASA and ARISS. The International Space Station will take about 10 minutes to pass over beginning at 10:12 am Pacific Time. Students have been preparing their questions to ask the astronaut.

Parkside is one of just 13 educational organizations in the United States to have an ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) contact this season after the proposal was accepted by NASA. It should be an exciting experiment with plenty to inspire continuing interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
