Update on Schools with Tomorrow Inside from San Bruno Park School District Superintendent Dr. Stella Kemp
This past Monday evening, the District 7-11 Committee on Surplus Property convened a public hearing for the purpose of receiving input on the Committee’s recommendations regarding consolidation of two of the six elementary schools in San Bruno Park School District. The recommendation currently is for the closure of El Crystal in June 2018 and Rollingwood in the next two to three years. The vision for Schools with Tomorrow Inside – creating 21st century teaching and learning centers – is explained on the District Website: http://sbpsd.k12.ca.us

All members of the Committee were present to listen to comments which will be taken into consideration when the Committee meets again on January 29th, 6 p.m. at the District Office. Their final recommendation to the Board of Trustees regarding school consolidation will be considered at the February 21st Board meeting (7 p.m., at Allen Elementary School). The District has posted a list of FAQ’s on the website and will be updating periodically.
School consolidation is a process that begins first with the draft recommendation from the 7-11 Committee on Surplus Property, followed by a public hearing. Following the public hearing, the Committee reconvenes to finalize their recommendations and then the process culminates with the Board of Trustees decision regarding the recommendations. After the February 21st board meeting, pending a decision by the board to move forward with the recommended plan and timelines of the committee, the District will be send out a communication to those parents and staff affected to outline next steps in the transitioning process. This will include a plan for meeting with parents, staff and the transition team. Programs, such as STEM, that are popular at any site earmarked for consolidation will be transferred to one or more of the other District schools.
