Health Officials Urge Precautions in Light of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Increase

Bay Area health officials are reminding everyone to have a conversation with their primary care provider and to be screened regularly for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which have been increasing across the country and in California for the past five years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California has the highest number of cases among all states. San Mateo County follows similar statewide and national trends, where syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia have increased since 2012, and with HIV cases increasing slightly. LEARN MORE

Candidate Filing Period Open for June 5, 2018, Statewide Direct Primary Election

Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced the opening of the candidate filing period for the June 5, 2018, Statewide Direct Primary Election. For candidates seeking elected office, the filing period closes at 5 p.m. on March 9. The election will be the first election conducted under the California Voter’s Choice Act (VCA), which means every registered voter will receive a Vote-by-Mail Ballot through the mail. LEARN MORE
