What San Mateo Parks Have To Offer

Many opportunities await you in your San Mateo County Parks. Bike trails, picnic sites, hiking trails, guided walks and volunteer opportunities -- there is something for everyone! Find out more at our events page.

Marbled Murrelets in Memorial Park on Saturday, June 28, 10am-2pm.
A variety of events are being planned to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Memorial Park, the first San Mateo County Park. Celebrate the Memories, Restore the Glory and Preserve for the Future.

The first of these activities include an open house tomorrow June 28 at 10 to enjoy the refurbished displays in the Henry Bloomquist Nature Center, a presentation at 11 by Sequoia Audubon past president Jennifer Rycenga about the Marbled Murrelet, a unique robin sized bird that nests in the large limbs of old-growth redwoods found in Memorial Park and agilely but secretively flies along Pescadero Creek 12 miles to the west to the ocean to hunt and feed, and an easy hike in the park to see old growth trees and various Marbled Murrelet protection measures.  Find out the details and timing here.

Second Sunday Bird Walk at Edgewood, July 13, 2014, 8-11am.
Join Sequoia Audubon docent Susie Hons for an early morning bird walk at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve.  Look and listen for California Thrasher, Wrentit, Oak Titmouse, Western Bluebirds, and many more. Click here for more information.

Take A Hike at San Pedro Valley County Park, July 5, 9am.
Enjoy the beauty of San Pedro Valley Park, a park that offers great views and a variety of plant habitats.  Many visitors catch a glimpse of a bobcat, fox or rabbit. Butterflies and birds are also common. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and hats and bring water bottles. Following the hike, stop by the visitor center to find out more about the park. See the webpage for more information or like them on facebook.
