*May 31, 2018 UPDATE*

The following is a summary of what is known at this point of the ongoing investigation

Aghdam was reported missing to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office by family members on Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was last seen by family members on March 31, 2018. On Monday April 2, 2018, at approximately 12:40 p.m. Aghdam visited the YouTube campus in San Bruno for approximately ten minutes and spoke with employees at the site. Aghdam asked for directions to the main office and was directed to the front desk where she inquired about employment.

On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Aghdam was contacted by Mountain View Police in her vehicle in the Walmart Parking Lot located at 600 Showers Drive in Mountain View. Aghdam was sleeping in her car and told police officers that she left home due to a disagreement with family members. Mountain View Police Officers confirmed that Aghdam was not in need of assistance and removed her from the statewide missing persons system. Mountain View later notified Aghdam’s family that she had been located and was unharmed.

On the same date at approximately 11:03 a.m., Aghdam visited the Jackson Arms Shooting Range located at 152 Utah Avenue in South San Francisco. She practiced shooting for a time with a pistol and left at approximately11:39 a.m.

At approximately 12:43 p.m., Aghdam arrived at the YouTube Headquarters Campus and entered a parking garage on foot from Bayhill Drive. Aghdam was carrying a purse over her left shoulder and walked directly to a pedestrian door leading to a courtyard area between the parking structure and the YouTube Building. Immediately after entering the courtyard, Aghdam was contacted by a YouTube Employee who requested that Aghdam produce a YouTube Identification Badge. Aghdam ignored the employee, reached into her purse with her right hand, and removed a pistol. Upon seeing the pistol, the YouTube Employee immediately fled and dialed 911. Aghdam walked east through the courtyard and began firing indiscriminately into a crowd of employees eating lunch. She emptied her pistol of ammunition, reloaded another magazine, and continued firing at the building and into the crowd. As she approached the entrance to the building, Aghdam turned the pistol on herself, firing it into her chest. A total of twenty ejected shell casings were located at the scene and one round remained in the firearm.

The firearm used during the commission of this crime, a Smith and Wesson 9mm Model SD9VE Semi-Automatic Pistol, was registered to Aghdam. She had purchased the handgun from “The Gun Range” in San Diego, California on January 16, 2018.

Multiple search warrants were issued and served pursuant to this investigation. Residences in San Diego and Menifee, California were searched as well as Aghdam’s vehicle, which was left parked near the YouTube Campus. Property seized pursuant to these searches continues to be reviewed and analyzed. The handwritten addresses of the Google Campus in Mountain View and the Youtube Campus in San Bruno were located in Aghdam’s vehicle.

Although this investigation is still on-going, there is no evidence that Nasim Aghdam acted in concert with any other subjects in the commission of this crime. Furthermore, the primary motive for this crime is believed to be Aghdam’s displeasure with YouTube business practices. There is no evidence that her actions were intended to support any specific cause or ideology.

This remains an open and active investigation. Investigators continue to await the receipt of additional evidence and are reviewing a vast amount of received evidence. Anyone with any additional information related to this crime is urged to contact the San Bruno Police Department at (650) 616-7100 or by email: sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov Information can be left anonymously.
