Avid Peninsula Cyclist Identified In Deadly Crash

The man was known to frequent local roadways, often riding as many as 15 miles per day at the age of 77.

FOSTER CITY, CA — A man who was killed last week in Foster City while riding a bicycle died doing his life's passion: cycling around the San Francisco Peninsula region. That's according to Mission Hospice & Homecare who wrote about the man just last year — highlighting the fact that he was still riding "as much as 15 miles almost every day."

He was 78-year-old Marvin Crockett, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.

Crockett died on Friday after he was struck while headed across East Hillsdale Boulevard in the westbound lanes, according to police. A blue Toyota Camry hit him as it was going north on Foster City Boulevard. Crockett was taken to Stanford Hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.

Crockett was an avid biker who moved with his wife Mary Ann to Foster City in 1964, according to Mission Hospice & Homecare. At that time, he was battling pancreatic cancer and early-stage Alzheimer's disease, the post said, and he started hospice care at the center in the spring.

His wife told the organization that she was grateful Crockett had his bikes.

"His riding makes a huge difference," she told them. "When he comes back from a ride, he feels really, really good."
