City to Receive 2012 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence Tonight

By resolving its $3.5 million budget deficit in 2011 and increasing city services, the City of San Carlos is being recognized at tonight's council meeting by the California League of Cities with the 2012 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence.

Each year the Helen Putnam Award is given to 11 cities throughout California for outstanding programs developed and implemented that year. The League of California Cities asks the 482 cities in the state to submit nominations in various categories for consideration of the award.

Prior Helen Putnam Awards presented to the City of San Carlos have included the Multi-City Shuttle Program (1989) and the Cost Avoidance Reserve (2003).

Jessica Stanfill Mullin, Regional Public Affairs Manager for the Peninsula Division of the League of California Cities will present the Helen Putnam Award to the City of San Carlos Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers, 600 Elm St.
