Cooking Up a Grand Opening

NorCal Wholesale Hydroponics, 887 Industrial Road, Suite J in San Carlos, celebrates its Grand Opening with a barbeque and vendor booths.

Laurie Dalbey and her family were looking for a place that needed a gardening and hydroponic store for the serious and not-so-serious gardener.

"San Francisco and San Jose are loaded with these kind of stores," Dalbey said. "We wanted to go someplace where we we needed. A friend of the family went to school down here and suggested San Carlos because it was in the middle of San Francisco and San Jose."

Derek Bosia, who graduated from Menlo College with a marketing degree, suggested San Carlos. Their location on Industrial Road gave Dalbey plenty of room to spread out.

"We even kept a lot of the store intentionally vacant so that people could give us product suggestions. We have plenty of room to spare."

The celebration continues Sunday, with representatives from Dr. Earth and DL Wholesale around to hand out a few samples.

Bosia, Nolan Doss and Errol Tu'ufuli all played at Menlo College and joined Laurie, Tyler, Sean and Mitch Dalbey in putting it all together.

Cook Pete Robertson gets plenty of kudos for grilling up some great hamburgers and hot dogs.
