High Surf Advisory For OC Beaches, Rain Likely: San Clemente

SAN CLEMENTE, CA —High surf along with strong rip currents continue to batter the California coastline, according to the National Weather Service.

A high surf advisory issued for Orange and Los Angeles counties is expected to last from 8 p.m. Thursday until 11 p.m. Friday, they said.

The surf will peak in Los Angeles County late tonight and Friday at 5 to 8 feet, with occasional sets of up to 10-feet, according to an NWS statement.

In Orange County, expect surf of 4-7 feet, along with 9-foot wave sets.

Rip currents, which the NWS says increases the risk of drowning, were also expected during this time.

"Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea,'' warned the statement.

Beachgoers who get caught in a rip current are urged to stay calm and swim parallel to the shore until able to break free.
