Mom Transports 2 Kids, Meth in her Car, Says U.S. Border Patrol

A mom with two children in her car was arrested in San Clemente Monday, accused of smuggling methamphetamine.

Agents became suspicious of a car driving northbound on the I-5 in San Clemente and pulled the driver over near Basilone Road, officials said.

A drug-sniffing dog was called out to examin the 2001 Honda Accord and triggered a positive alert, the press release says.

“Agents searched the vehicle and discovered packages of methamphetamine hidden inside the lining of an ice chest near a child’s booster seat,” the release states. “The narcotics weighed 6.72 pounds and are worth approximately $67,200.”

The mother was arrested and the two children were turned over to County of San Diego Child Welfare Services.  The vehicles were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
