San Clemente Man ID'd In Fatal Super Bowl Sunday Collision

A San Clemente man was identified as the victim of a fatal Super Bowl Sunday collision in South Orange County. He was 47-years-old.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — One person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on crash Sunday in San Clemente, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The Coroner has identified 47-year-old San Clemente resident Michael Crane as the victim of the fatal collision which occurred about 4:50 p.m. on North El Camino Real, near Camino San Clemente.

According OC sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Braun, a driver of an Oldsmobile Bravada was heading south in the northbound lanes of El Camino Real. Meanwhile, a Toyota Prius was going north on the same street.

Crane, the driver of the Bravada, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Prius and a passenger were injured in the crash and were taken to a hospital for treatment, Braun said.

Their current conditions were unknown. Their ages and genders were not released by the sheriff's department. It's not yet known if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash, Braun said.

The crash temporarily shut down all lanes on North El Camino Real from Camino San Clemente to Avenida Pico while an investigation was conducted.
