San Clemente Open Skate Contest Prepares To Shred
Skaters under the age of 17 are encouraged to register early to get discounted rates for the contest on Sept. 18.
SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Skaters of San Clemente, hop on your wheels — the 20th annual San Clemente Open Skate Contest is coming soon to a skate park near you. The all-day skate contest is taking place Saturday, Sept. 18 and registration to participate opened up Wednesday.
The event gives local skaters 17-and-under the chance to show off their steez while raising money for the Friends of San Clemente Beaches, Parks and Recreation Foundation. According to the press release, this year's skate contest will feature new entertainment outside of skating: local band Primo will perform under skate court lights, and food will be available from Tacos4Troops and Kona Ice.
Returning to host the event this year is Dave Duncan, a prominent local skateboarder. The San Clemente Open Skate Contest is sponsored by Stance and SoCall Surf Shop, and all registered skaters will receive a contest T-shirt, swag bag, and a chance to win prizes in the Best Trick Contest sponsored by Dr. Mogavero.
