San Clemente Residents Requested To Conserve Water During Main Repair

South Coast Water District is requesting voluntary conservation of potable water for irrigation purposes throughout the City during the week of March 1-5, due to a scheduled water supply line repair that will limit deliveries of water to the City’s reservoirs. Read the press release below”

A water main break repair on the Joint Regional Water Supply System (JRWSS), operated by South Coast Water District, has triggered the need for a reduction in water use from March 1 through 5, 2021 in San Clemente.

Laguna Beach, CA. – February 25, 2021 - South Coast Water District, as a water supplier to the City of San Clemente, is requesting voluntary conservation measures from San Clemente residents during the week of March 1-5, due to planned repairs and the shutdown of a main transmission line that supplies water to the City’s reservoirs.

Despite the recent warm weather trend, SCWD encourages residents to reduce, or turn off, their irrigation during this week of limited water storage in the City’s water service area. Irrigation typically accounts for 50 percent of the water use at a single-family residence and is not necessary for human health and safety. Moreover, during this time of year, almost all types of landscapes can easily withstand five days without water or can be sustained with a small amount of hand-watering or a short one-time irrigation system cycle, if absolutely necessary.

Homeowners with swimming pools served by the City’s water system are also asked to participate in this conservation effort and refrain from draining and refilling their pools until the week of March 7. Crews will be working as expeditiously as possible to return the supply line to service and refill the City’s reservoirs while also monitoring water quality to ensure that the water delivered to San Clemente homes continues to meet all regulatory standards and is safe to drink.
