'We Totally Need A Paul Walker Statue In San Clemente' Surfers Beseech Council: Video

Comedic Surfers ask San Clemente Council for a Paul Walker statue, saying "I'm pretty sure he had a cousin attend San Clemente High School."

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Only at a city council meeting in an Orange County beach town can local comedians request a 12-foot-tall Paul Walker statue.

They made their way to the podium, fresh off a surf session. These "Fast and Furious" fans were actually Huntington Beach comedians Tom Allen and Spencer Kalendar. Each addressed the San Clemente city council in late March in their comedic but serious-toned quest for a Paul Walker statue.

"Detroit has the Robocop, Philly has Rocky, we need Paul Walker," Allen, in character as self-described freelance journalist Chad Kroeger said.

His counterpart, Spencer Kalendar, channeling his character Bodhi Johnson, also made straight-faced pleas to the council members for the larger than life statue.

The young men at the mike were there not just there to ask for the statue but to share what they call "a bit of comedy to inspire people in these 'gnarly times.'"

Their mutual reason for desiring the statue was that both see Walker as a figure that is "unifying" and a "beacon of headlights to guide us across this dusty road."

Both suggested that 2017 so far had been a pretty bummer of a year.

Allen and Kalendar used a bit of their comedy act to be funny and positive, and not be vindictive, they stated through social media.

In the council meeting, both deadpanned their desire for the statue.

"We've been to all kinds of council hangouts all over Orange County, asking for this statue," Johnson said. "Paul Walker's spirit encompasses what this town is all about. But the thing is, I'm really busy right now, I'm taking a couple of community college classes and I don't have time to be driving all over fighting for statues."

When asked what Paul Walker's connection to San Clemente was, neither could address exactly how the actor was associated with the city.

"I'm pretty sure Paul Walker's cousin went to San Clemente High School, at least for a couple of semesters," Johnson said.

The idea for a Paul Walker statue was immediately dismissed by the council, though Councilmember Lori Donchak shared an encouraging message to the young men.

"I think your point is that we all need an inspiring figure, and that is a very powerful message," Donchak said.

Another councilmember appreciated the thought and the passion for the actor who lost his life too soon.

"I am a big fan of Paul Walker. Don't get me wrong, but no. Sorry Bro," he said.

Both Kalendar and Allen have suggested that they will continue their comedic act.

"We're trying to learn and get out of Huntington Beach, and see the world," Kalendar said.
