We are pleased to announce that the Del Obispo Student Council and the Character Counts Committee -- under the leadership of teacher Jessica Comstock -- raised $1,751.19 to support Pennies for Patients.
Pennies for Patients is a nationwide organization that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Its mission is to help cure leukemia, lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease and to help improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

The Student Council and Character Counts Committee challenged the student body to raise $500. Not only did Del Obispo Elementary students achieve this goal, they exceeded it by $1200.
Our Student Council and Character Counts Committee are comprised of 10 fifth-grade students who have a passion for being the champion of the underdog and to assist those in need. These Del Obispo Dragons spread the word about this program by making posters, writing announcements, making calls, organizing parent letters, inviting a guest speaker, and putting together classroom boxes.

Every classroom participated in this program, and money was collected school-wide over a one week period.
Not only was this a school-wide effort, but one special fifth-grade student, Sage Groves, raised $600 in charitable donations and will be recognized for her outstanding efforts in the weeks to come. Congratulations to Sage and all the students.
This is not the first time this student group has mobilized to help the less fortunate. Already this year, these incredible Dragon students have conducted a food drive, collected toys during the holiday, and raised money for Heavenly Hats. Their next project…will be raising money to donate for CHOC by selling “Friendship Grams” for Valentine’s Day.
