BLOG: Capo Valley Christian Student Helps Russian Orphans

A first-grade student at Capistrano Valley Christian Schools raises money.

During a recent chapel at Capistrano Valley Christian Schools High School Principal Terry Gaunt spoke to the elementary students about the upcoming high school Mission trip to Russia.

After his message, first-grade teacher Denise Prouty had a class discussion on missions. She wanted her students to know that even as first graders, they can be a big part of that mission trip right here at school.

One young lady in the first grade class really took the discussion to heart. Turner Guerard became the catalyst for her classmates. The next day she arrived at school carrying a large plastic container she had fashioned into a bank. Turner had a collection of coins and bills she wished to donate to the high school trip.

Therefore, the first-grade class began its own mission project, or “First Grade Funds for Russia.”  Students have given money from allowances, change jars (with parent permission), and coins found on the playground. Others, like Turner, have become entrepreneurs, creating small businesses.

The Feldsien sisters, Jaden and Gianna recycled the family’s plastic bottles and instead of going for ice cream with the proceeds, they added the money to the class fund. The girls and their neighborhood friends even created and sold paper fans; while others like Cameron Trimino, contributed her savings from birthday and Christmas money. The fund has grown from Turner’s initial contribution, to the classroom current total of $241.45.

So, although it will be high school students, parents, and CVCS faculty going to Russia on April 22, 2013, the first graders from CVCS, along with many others, will be sharing in this mission through the support that they are providing monetarily and through the prayers that they will be lifting up for their safe and successful journey.

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Romans 10:14

And how beautiful are those who help make that possible – even the little ones.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example to the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
