The Capistrano Coast Chapter of National Charity League, Inc., (NCL) has awarded scholarships totaling $7,000 to nine graduating seniors from seven local south county high schools. The chapter reviewed over 500 applications for the scholarships from students that attend high schools represented by the members of the Capistrano Coast chapter senior class. The applicants received points based on the following guidelines: community service, financial need, GPA, SAT or ACT scores, and additional responsibilities such as employment and extracurricular activities. The recipients may not be a member of the NCL chapter. All applicants were rated individually based on these guidelines and then confidentially ranked by points received from highest to lowest by the scholarship committee.
The nine 2013 NCL scholarship recipients are from: San Juan Hills High School: Jordan Hall (attending University of Southern California), and Lance Hsieh (attending University of California in San Diego). Aliso Niguel High School: Jamasb Sayadi (attending Harvard University). Capistrano Valley High School: Garett Sanchez (attending Georgetown University). Dana Hills High School: David Cornella (attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) and Mason Palmer (attending University of California Santa Barbara). San Clemente High School: Mikayla Lacebal (attending San Diego State University) and Helen Wright (attending Saddleback College). JSerra Catholic High School: Alyssa Ahle (attending Chapman University)
“These fine students represent the future of education, science, business, law, medicine, and the arts. We are proud to use these scholarship awards to encourage them to keep striving to achieve their life’s dreams,” said Beth O’Brien, the NCL scholarship committee chair.
