Capo Trustee to Hang It Up This Term

Trustee Jack Brick will conclude his time on the Board of Trustees this year.

Up for reelection on Nov. 6, Brick has told his fellow trustees he will not run.

“This will serve to advise you and my colleagues on the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Trustees that I will not seek re-election to the board,” Brick wrote in an email sent to fellow trustees Thursday.

Brick has served as a trustee since 2008. Last year, he was president, although he ran only one meeting, handing then-vice president Gary Pritchard the gavel. 

He was first elected as part of a so-called reform slate. In the past two years, however, he has been consistently voting with more recently elected members of the board.

“It has been a privilege and honor to have served the district these past years,” Brick wrote.

Brick lives in Dana Point and represents Trustee Area 1, which includes Dana Point, Capo Beach and parts of San Juan Capistrano.

So far, no one has expressed interest in running for his seat, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters website. Because an incumbent is choosing not to run, the county will keep the period open in which people may declare their candidacy through to Aug. 15.

There are three other seats up for grabs. In Area No. 2, which represents parts of San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza, . They are Don Franklin Richardson and Jim Reardon, both of San Juan Capistrano, and Michele Taylor-Bible of Ladera Ranch.

In Trustee Area No. 5, which encompasses Aliso Viejo, . And so far, only Trustee John Alpay has expressed interest in his seat, which represents Area No. 3, which includes most of San Clemente.
