Capistrano Valley Christian Dominates Its Season Opener, 40-0
Eagles' newcomers and veterans help to make Dan Dodd's coaching debut a successful one with a resounding victory over San Jacinto Valley Academy at San Clemente High.
Freshman quarterback Riley Babick completed 10 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception, to lead Capistrano Valley Christian to a 40-0 victory over San Jacinto Valley Academy in a nonleague eight-man football game Saturday night at San Clemente High.
In Dan Dodd's debut as the Eagles' coach, the team looked to several newcomers, including Babick, who also carried 29 times for 67 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver AJ Discenzo caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, and freshman running back Josh Anderson rushed for 34 yards in three carries.
Sophomore Mike Updegraff was on the receiving end of four of Babick's passes for 103 yards and another score, while junior running back Kean Coleman caught a screen pass and carried it 43 yards for a touchdown.

Team captain Alex Colombo, a junior, along with juniors Luke Stevens and Alex Thacker, shined on defense for the Eagles (1-0), who led at halftime, 34-0, and were able to play their reserves for nearly the entire second half.
Capistrano Valley Christian, which finished 7-2 and as Express League champions last season, next plays Escondido Classical Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. at San Clemente High.
