JSerra's Boys Swimmers Honored for Academics

Sporting an overall 3.80 grade-point average, the Lions are Orange County's only squad to be named a CIF State academic team champion for 2010-11.

The boys swim team at JSerra High was named a CIF State academic team champion for its overall 3.80 grade-point average, the state office announced Wednesday.

Twenty-seven state academic champions in 16 sports were announced, but the Lions, coached by Mary McLaughlin, were the only Orange County team to be honored.

Apple Valley Christian (girls cross country, softball), Frontier High of Bakersfield (girls basketball, boys cross country) and The Webb School of Claremont (boys water polo, football) earned top honors in two sports.

The boys golf team from The Bishop’s School in La Jolla had the highest overall grade-point average (3.98), based on an unweighted 4.0 scale, while Apple Valley Christian (girls cross country) and Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach (girls golf) tied for the best overall girls GPA (3.97) .
