New Smoothie 'Club' Opens

A new smoothie "club" run by independent Herbalife distributors held its grand opening Friday afternoon.

Each smoothie—with flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, piña colada, peanut butter cup and chocolate mint—is infused with the diet supplements and is less than 250 calories. It's one of the first such clubs to open in Southern California, and the first in South Orange County, said NewStart Nutrition co-owner Mary Goudie.

"We're like a co-op in some ways, where we each have a stake in the business," she said. "We serve our members aloe, which is soothing to the digestive system; our energy tea; and a protein-packed smoothie. So our smoothies are the equivalent of a meal ... usually [customers] experience some kind of health benefit."
