Groups of young mariachi musicians from throughout Southern California drew thousands of captivated fans Saturday to Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Laura Garciacano Sobrino, a violinist who was inducted into the Mariachi Hall of Fame in 2004, was master of ceremonies for the Seventh Annual Battle of the Mariachis.

Mariachi de Chula Vista took first place.
