The SJC 25 Stock Report, Jan. 22, 2012

Big week for our companies, which offer some travel options you may not heard of.

Editors Note  – In this feature, we check on the health of the Fortune 500 companies which have a presence in San Juan Capistrano.

Wow, another good week for our corner of Wall Street. Impressive gains by Bank of America and Staples.

BofA climbed big-time after posting stronger than expected earnings its fourth quarter. Dollar Tree hit a new all-time high this week at 86.27. It has since eased back a bit. And Marriott had a huge week. Could it because the company is ???

Some Business Briefs for You:

Aw, this is sad. Chevron lost two employees in a oil rig fire off of Nigeria

Kodak-Eastman, which is not in our SJC Patch 25, filed for bankruptcy this week so that it may reorganize. Citigroup, which is in our 25, threw the troubled company a lifeline by lending it $950 million. Kodak expects to emerge from BK in 2013.

Rumor has it that JPMorgan Chase is keeping its 2011 CEO compensation at the same level it was for 2010. Don't feel too bad for Jamie Dimon. He earned $23 million in 2010.

Marriott once again is named one of the country's top companies for which to work. Hmm, with a soft opening in a few weeks, I bet the SJC's Residence Inn is hiring. (Full disclosure, my husband has a part-time job with Marriott as a running coach; I can confirm, it IS a great company to work for.)

Safeway announced its employees donated 1 million hours in community service last year. Who says Wall Street is cold?

Traveling to San Diego? SDG&E has added a new attraction, if you're bent this way: an energy innovation center where residential and business customers can go to learn how to save energy.

And while you're traveling, if you have a hankering for inexpensive Mexican-like food, Taco Bell is expanding its breakfast menu and adding what it calls "Fresh Cantina" offerings. But you'll have to be traveling in the opposite direction. The only SoCal restaurants to get the more Chipotle-like items are in Bakersfield.
