Abandoned Boats Removed From The San Leandro Marina
The boats pose an environmental threat from petroleum products and some are used for criminal activity.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Abandoned boats are an increasing problem in Bay waters as the homeless move into some of them, while others are used for criminal activities. The boats also pose a pollution risk if the aging craft leak petroleum products.
The San Leandro Police Department and San Leandro Public Works used a huge crane to remove several boats from the San Leandro Marina earlier this month.
Boat owners who are no longer interested in paying for upkeep and storage of the boats remove the serial numbers from the vessels and then anchor them, tie-them-up or set them adrift.
