Cat Killed in 2-Alarm House Fire in San Leandro (Video)

SAN LEANDRO, CA — One cat died and two people were displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out at a San Leandro home this morning, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The blaze was first reported around 7:15 a.m. at a home near Bella Vista Avenue and Lorraine Boulevard, fire officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.

San Leandro police officers also responded and were able to evacuate two people from a nearby home as a precaution, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within about 20 minutes of arrival, preventing the fire from spreading into two nearby homes, fire officials said.

Fire investigators determined the fire began in the home's backyard and quickly spread into the home.

No injuries were reported.

Two people were displaced as a result, but were able to make their own temporary living arrangements, according to fire officials.

One cat died in the fire, while two others were safely rescued by the home's residents. Two other cats that lived at the home have been unaccounted for, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
