CHP DUI Checkpoint Planned In The East Bay

The CHP chose Cinco de Mayo weekend to crack down on drunk driving.

EAST BAY — Cinco de Mayo is always used as an excuse for a cerveza or a margarita, and the fact that it falls on a weekend this year increases the opportunity to indulge. To make sure that local residents are planning wisely for a sober ride home, the CHP has scheduled a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint for Saturday night. It will be located somewhere in unincorporated San Leandro or Hayward from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

According to Castro Valley Area CHP Commander, Lt. Stephen Perea, “Our mission is to save lives through both education and enforcement. The dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs cannot be over emphasized and we would hope that those who choose to consume any of these would make the right choice by having a sober, designated driver.”

The checkpoint will be clearly marked and the road where it is located will be chosen for its established DUI problem. The exact location has not been announced publicly.
