City Hosting Holiday Light Recycling Program

San Leandro will host its first holiday lights recycling program in the new year. From Jan. 4 through Jan. 15, residents are invited and encouraged to bring their working or non-working light strands of all lengths and colors to be recycled.

The lights, which can take up to 1,000 years to break down in a landfill, will be taken apart and recycled for their metal and plastic components, city officials said. San Leandro residents can drop off their holiday lights at the Public Works Service Center located at 14200 Chapman Road between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Extension cords, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), pre-lit trees, wreaths and garland will not be accepted.
