The City of San Leandro Awards Medical Cannabis Dispensary Permit to the Davis Street Wellness Center

Davis Street Wellness Center received the permit to open up a dispensary in San Leandro.

The City of San Leandro awards medical cannabis dispensary permit to the Davis Street Wellness Center. After an extensive application process and public comments by more than 50 individuals the City Council voted 5 to 2, Monday, July 18 in favor of issuing the permit to the Davis Street Wellness Center.

The application for the second permit included the Davis Street Wellness Center and Blum Oakland, both finalists for the first permit issued by the city.

Led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. John Oram the Davis Street Wellness Center will be a state of the art, closed loop medical cannabis distribution clinic utilizing a unique patient centric dispensing model, similar to a full-service medical pharmacy. The first of its kind in the cannabis industry.

In addition to dispensing cannabis in a clinical setting the Davis Street Wellness Center will utilize a new and innovative community benefit program. Partnering with Davis Street Family Resource Center (DSFRC), one of the oldest and most respected non-profits in San Leandro, the DSWC and DS Family Resource Center will support San Leandro and its residents through its safety-net programs, providing emergency food, clothing, utility assistance, housing resources, job placement assistance, child care services and seasonal programs like the holiday basket program and back to school backpack giveaway. "We selected Davis Street Family Resource Center because of its proven track record of providing safety-net services in San Leandro" Dr. Oram, CEO, DSWC.

In addition to the contributions to DSFRC safety-net programs the DSWC will also support local nonprofits and informal neighborhood projects and faith-based initiatives needed in these financially challenging times for nonprofits, said Rose Padilla Johnson.

The DSWC further distanced itself from Blum as the best choice for San Leandro and its residents by voluntarily proposing to give the city 9% of its gross sales on an annual basis, nearly twice as much as Blum's proposed 5%. "We wanted to ensure the city and its residents would truly benefit from a Medical Cannabis Dispensary - that's why we proposed 9%." Nico Enea, Chief Financial Officer.
"Our unique model of supporting patients in a clinical setting and voluntarily giving the City of San Leandro 9% of our gross sales is a game changer. There is no other dispensary in the state giving local government 9% of its sales." Gordon Galvan, Director of Government Relations.

The DSWC Executive Team includes Dr. John Oram, CEO; Nico Enea, Chief Financial Officer; Gordon Galvan, Director of Government Relations; and Rose Padilla Johnson, Director of Community Benefits. Together the team has decades of combined experience in science, technology, public health, government relations, social services, finance, infused product development, and dispensary operations.
