East Bay College To End Sports Program Due To CA Law: Reports

University officials said student-athletes should look at neighboring colleges to compete, according to a report from KTVU.

ALAMEDA, CA — The College of Alameda has announced it would end its sports program following the 2026 spring season, according to multiple news reports.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Marc J. Spears, who posted on X that the program's end was due to financial and Title IX reasons.

"Title IX requires equal access to sports for women and men. Over the past few years, we’ve been unable to maintain a women’s sports team at COA," Mark Johnson, a spokesperson for the Peralta Community College District, said in a press release, according to KTVU. "Without women’s sports, we cannot continue to offer men’s sports. Opportunities for student-athletes remain available at our sister colleges in Oakland: Laney College and Merritt College."
