SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro is glowing with success, and not just because of the iconic statue Truth is Beauty. Downtown San Leandro is attracting advanced manufacturing and innovation businesses through new projects and developments.
These range from the venerable Ghirardelli Chocolate in a tech campus, to office space for startups and established businesses. And to ease commutes, housing is also mixed into the equation.
Downtown San Leandro has put together a list of new developments currently in the works:

- Westlake Urban is developing a second office building located at the San Leandro Tech Campus, adding 132,000 square ft. of Class A office space to Downtown San Leandro. The Phase 2 office building is expected to be completed spring 2019.
- Ghirardelli will be the first tenant of the Phase 2 building at the San Leandro Tech Campus, situating a portion of the chocolate company’s headquarters at the expanding tech campus just feet away from the iconic Truth is Beauty statue displayed nearby.
- 899 Alvarado, mixed-use housing developed by Maximus Real Estate Partners, will encompass two residential buildings, a children’s play area, dog park, an onsite neighborhood café, as well as number of additional residential and publicly-accessible community amenities—providing residences for a variety of different families and lifestyles.
- Sansome Pacific is now under contract to redevelop the full block on East 14th St. and Callan Ave., proposing a 7-storied, 260,000 sq. ft. mixed-use development consisting of 200 residential units, 300 parking spaces and over 28,000 sq. ft. of ground floor retail space.
- The modular construction of La Vereda is nearing completion, slated to add an additional 85 senior apartment units to downtown this spring 2019. La Vereda will add to the already-completed 115 affordable housing units completed in May 2017 at the adjacent Marea Alta development.
