Man Killed By Deputies In San Leandro Was East Bay Musician: Report

The deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave as per department policy, authorities said.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A man who was shot and killed by deputies in unincorporated San Leandro early Monday morning has been identified as an East Bay musician, according to a report from the East Bay Times.

Anthony Anderson, 40, was killed by two deputies who opened fire on him outside his home in the 16000 block of Selbrone Drive, according to authorities and the report.

Earlier, Anderson had called the police department, warning them that he had a gun and wanted to harm people, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

When the officers arrived at the home, they established a perimeter around it. As Anderson exited the home, the deputies felt he "presented an immediate threat" and fired at him, authorities said.

The deputies accused of shooting the man have since been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with the sheriff's office policy, according to authorities.

As per California law, whenever police shoot an unarmed man, the California Department of Justice will review the shooting.

"I can’t believe this is the country I am living in," Anderson's mom, Kristina Anderson, told the East Bay Times. "Because this is not supposed to happen to anyone."
