New Electric Service Launches In San Leandro
Businesses begin receiving electricity from the new service this month, with residential customers being added later.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The East Bay Community Energy Authority (EBCE) officially launched in San Leandro on Thursday.
EBCE is now the electricity provider for unincorporated Alameda County and eleven of its cities, including San Leandro. The launch is limited to commercial customers, with residential customers following in November.
According to the City of San Leandro, EBCE partners with PG&E for power distribution, customer service, and billing while providing more renewable energy at lower rates. Expected earnings will be reinvested back into the community, creating local jobs.

"Thanks to this exciting new venture, the City of San Leandro will have enhanced opportunities for carbon-free electricity service, thereby benefitting our entire community and helping to achieve our Citywide carbon reduction targets," said Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter. "Furthermore, by working with our community and regional partners in Alameda County, EBCE will also be able to offer electricity service to San Leandrans at more affordable rates than what is currently available."

EBCE will purchase solar, wind, and hydroelectric renewable energy as sources for its renewable and carbon-free power. "We're excited to bring clean electricity service to Alameda County," added Nick Chaset, CEO of EBCE. "Our businesses will now be able to power their work with more renewable energy that doesn't affect their bottom line."

Customers will have two choices: Bright Choice and Brilliant 100. Bright Choice service uses about the same amount of clean energy sources as PG&E, but it costs less for customers. Brilliant 100 service is greener than PG&E electricity, but at the same price.
The City of San Leandro will opt up to Brilliant 100 electricity for its municipal facilities.
